Grand Carrera Calibre 6RS

Recommended Posts

I love this watch. The dealers seem to have a nice rep of the Calibre 6 RS, the problem is that the dial indicates that the watch is a Calibre 8. The Calibre 8RS has the grande date at 12 O'clock.

I think I may just buy it anyway. I really like the looks of this one. It comes in blue, which may be a fantasy color as I cannot find it on TAGs website, but who cares...it will have the Calibre 8 error anyway.

You meen like this?

It's a 21J as well. The GMT dial repeats the hands and the double date wheel works but will count up to 39 if you don't reset it at the end of the mth but what do you expect for 90 odd bucks?

That is nice Trailboss. Its the Calibre 8 - the one at Watch Eden is supposed to be the Calibre 6, but the dial says Calibre 8. Do you know where this one was purchased?

I would prefer the 6 but I haven't looked around too hard for it.

Friends of Gregs bought that one for him in China direct from wholesaler last year. At that stage none of our dealers had it but appearently it's around now.I'd try Hont, D4M or T4D. His mini review is here: http://www.replica-watch-guide.net/f...?showtopic=205

R2D4: When he gets that obscure I tend to simply block the post out mentaly rather than waste an hour of my life trying to figer out exactly WTF he's on about

I hate explaining that 39 day thing. I mean I totally understand why the gearing works the way it does but people are like huh  ?

Actually one of my favorite reps was a 39 day model.

Oh, I will go read about somewhere else then.

For us slow people: 1 date wheel needs to have 0-9 for 9,19 and 29 This is why some watches display 39. This movement doesn't have a corrector mechanism to make the disk go back to 0 after 3 rounds in a month. Is that correct?

I don't know about the 39 day thing, but overnight the Calibre 8RS rep popped up on the Eden's site. This is the one with the grande date at 12.

I didn't buy it because the date font looks like something that you'd see on a late 70's era alarm clock, but it does make a point in saying that it counts up from 01-31, instead of 01-39. Maybe they have fixed this problem.

I think Tony has been reading this thread and thought it a good idea to list it on his site.

At a guess never having seen a dual one appart the datewheel thing works like this: Two wheels, one 1 to 9, one 0 to 3 repeating. The 0/9 wheel advances once per day and when it reaches 9 it advances the other (0/3) wheel one place. Therefor the first wheel must go thru a complete cycle before clicking the other wheel over. It saves a complication and therefor is simpler which may be a good thing depending on the quality of design in the "improved" version. Even the complications that are the simplest in a gen can prove a nightmare in a rep. The sec@6 or GMT hands are good examples.

I wonder if Tony could explain why the Calibre 6RS says Calibre 8 on the dial. I know its probably just a mistake, but I wonder if they will be fixing it? Not that its a big deal, but I could replace the dial in the future.
